教师简介：Jennifer 自从2008年以来一直在北美以及其他国家从事EFL/ESL的

教学工作。 她于2015年加入英语强化学院（IEI）. 在IEI 她一直致力于听说，词汇，发音，语法，美国文化和大学预备课程的教学。她曾在多家国际和地区会议中演讲汇报， 其中包括在芝加哥国际对外英语教学大会中进行以言语行为和教师培训为主题的发言，以及在东京召开的 the Vocab@Tokyo大会上对关于使用学术语料库来构建词汇量以及相应活动的发言。 Jennifer在伊利诺伊大学获得语言学本科学历以及英语作为第二语言的教育学硕士学位，并从加拿大的维多利亚大学获得应用语言学文凭。 她从2009到2003年在日本公立小学，初中，高中指导教授英语，并担任英语语言职业发展和教师培训协调人。

Jennifer has been teaching EFL/ESL since 2008, both in North America and abroad. She joined the IEI in 2015. She has taught the Listening Speaking, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Grammar, American Culture, and University Preparation courses at the Intensive English Institute. She has given presentations at international and regional conferences, including International TESOL (Chicago) on speech acts and teacher training, and the Vocab@Tokyo conference (Tokyo) on using academic corpora to develop vocabulary lists and activities.

Jennifer has a B.A degree in Linguistics and a MATESL degree from the University of Illinois, and a Diploma in Applied Linguistics from the University of Victoria. Jennifer taught English in Japan from 2009 – 2013 as both a classroom instructor across public elementary, junior high, and high schools, and as a coordinator for English language professional development and teacher training. She also helped develop listening test materials for the Japanese national English language proficiency test for teachers.

This course is designed to assist international scholars in their academic oral communication skill development and familiarize them with the academic culture in the USA.  Students in this course will review and practice appropriate language and strategies to facilitate their interactions in various academic environments and events. They will also work on improving their formal presentation skills, from organizing a presentation to delivering it effectively in English. In addition, students will review and expand their spoken academic vocabulary with particular focus on the accuracy and appropriateness of its use. Assignments in this course will include online practice and self-reflection activities, recorded tasks, and mini-projects. At the end of the course students should be able to apply the skills and strategies learned to communicate more effectively in various academic contexts.
